Design and Development of an Automatic Sprayer to Reduce Greenhouse Temperature for Lettuce Cultivation

ABSTRACT
A sprayer is a device or machine that functions to break down a liquid into droplets or spray, one of whose functions is to increase air humidity. The sprayer is crucial for lettuce plants as it can lower the temperature to optimal conditions for plant growth. This study aims to design and develop an automatic sprayer system used in greenhouses, which can effectively and efficiently respond to temperature changes to create an optimal environment for lettuce growth. The design of the automatic sprayer system to reduce room temperature involves the use of an Arduino Uno ATMega 328 microcontroller, temperature sensors, a sprayer pump, hoses, and nozzles. The research results show that the system can respond well to temperature changes. The sprayer's water flow rate used is 100 mL/min, with an effective spray width of the small nozzle opening of 82.4 cm and an effective spray height of 88.34 cm. The implemented sprayer design can lower the room temperature according to the set point. The study also shows that at certain times, the system cannot maintain the room temperature between 24°C and 26°C. This is due to the complex external environmental factors, which mean the heat absorption by the water from the sprayer cannot maintain the room temperature as planned.
